STEAM Counselor
Employment Type : Summer(June 9th - August 8th) Part- time with training in Spring.
Location: Aliquippa-100 Harding Ave Aliquippa, PA 15001
Hours: Varies Monday through Friday 9:00-5:00 - up to 25 hours per week
Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Compensation: $14.25 per hour

Job Summary The STEAM Counselor is an integral part of the STEAM program team at Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania. This position is a perfect fit for someone looking to take a first step in their career to work with youth in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics education setting. With the No. 1 priority being their work with the kids during program hours. The person who fills this position will also be responsible for the items listed below..
Responsibilities
- Review and execute quality STEAM lessons for youth that encourage participation from all members
- Use STEAM resources and curricula to achieve general goals of STEAM literacy, excitement, and engagement.
- Keep the room that you are teaching class in clean and organized
- Remain focused on the planning and teaching during work hours. Cell phone use is prohibited when teaching.
- Provide guidance and role modeling for youth.
- Work in partnership and communicating with clubhouse staff is a daily requirement during the summer work hours.
- Teach the curriculum for 40-minute rotations with multiple groups of youth ages 5-13 years of age. Adapt the activities to be developmentally appropriate per the age level of youth enrolled.
- Maintain and complete all training requirements prior to the program start.
- Participate in all STEAM Counselor meetings to be determined with notice.
- Respond to emails regarding the STEAM Counselor job in a timely manner within 24 hours of receipt.
- Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors.
- Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
- Proficient in Google Suite.
Requirements
- Must be between 16 - 22 years of age.
- Be attending High School in good standing
- Belief in the mission, principles, values and standards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania
- Must possess excellent leadership, communication, computer/tech, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and youth
- Obtain Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter.
- Complete Mandated Reporter Certification prior to working with you.
- Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year.
- Attend CPR, Pediatric First Aid, and fire safety training prior to working with youth.
- The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
Mandatory Onboarding Requirements
CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, Criminal History, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure and Mandated Reporter certification, Fire Safety, Health Assessment and other mandatory required onboarding trainings upon hire.
